I’ve just been away for a few days it was HOT!! I love the sun – when I’m home I resent working inside when the sun is shining – resent working full stop! Affects my productivity no end. I adjust to make it work. I am lucky to have some flexibility – and appreciate not everyone has THAT much choice But are we always that aware of how best to use our time during the day, even if we can’t run to the sun when we fancy it? We all have 24 hours in a day, but how we utilise them can significantly impact our productivity and overall well-being. One of the key factors in maximising our output – and keeping ourselves happy- is identifying our best time to work during the day. Whether you’re a morning person or a night owl, understanding your body’s natural rhythms can lead to more focused and efficient work.  Here are some tips to help you find your peak productivity hours and make the most of your day.

1. Listen to Your Body’s Signals

We are all unique individuals, and our internal clocks, or circadian rhythms, differ from person to person. Some people feel most energised and focused in the early morning, while others find their creativity peaks during the late afternoon or evening. Pay attention to your body’s signals throughout the day and notice when you feel most alert and motivated.

2. Experiment and Observe

Finding your best time to work requires some experimentation. Try scheduling different tasks at various times of the day and observe how your productivity and quality of work fluctuate. Keep a journal or use productivity tracking tools to note your performance during different periods. Over time, patterns will emerge, helping you identify your most productive hours.

3. Respect Your Sleep

Quality sleep is the foundation of productivity. Irregular or insufficient sleep can disrupt your energy levels and lead to decreased productivity and focus. Ensure you get enough restful sleep each night and establish a consistent sleep schedule. With a well-rested mind and body, you’ll be better equipped to tackle tasks at your peak hours.

4. Leverage Technology to Aid Productivity

If your best time to work aligns with unconventional hours, or you want to sack off working for some sun for a bit!,  or you have a flexible schedule, consider using technology to your advantage. Utilise productivity apps and tools that cater to your working style and can help you stay organised and on track. These tools can help you make the most of your productive hours, regardless of when they occur.

5. Plan Ahead

Once you’ve identified your most productive hours, plan your day accordingly. Schedule your most critical and demanding tasks during these peak hours to capitalise on your focused mindset. Save less challenging tasks for times when your energy naturally dips.

6. Embrace Flexibility

While it’s essential to identify your best time to work, remember that life can be unpredictable. Embrace flexibility in your schedule to accommodate changes and unexpected events. Avoid beating yourself up if you can’t always adhere to your ideal work hours.

7. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle:

A healthy lifestyle plays a vital role in determining your peak productivity hours. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress-reducing activities contribute to overall well-being and enhance your ability to focus during your best working hours.

Recognising and leveraging your best time to work during the day can unlock your true potential and optimise your productivity. By listening to your body, experimenting, and planning ahead, you can harness the power of your natural circadian rhythm to achieve more in less time. Remember that it’s not about conforming to traditional work schedules but rather discovering what works best for you. So, embrace your unique rhythm, and watch as your productivity soars to new heights. And of course – make hay while the sun shines! ☀️
